LESSONS

Lessons/Instruction/Lectures

I love teaching. It has been and continues to be one of the joys of my life. Through my own studies I have come upon so many teaching styles of others over the years. Each teacher I encountered was always willing to share their knowledge and expertise and each did so in their own way. I believe it is my responsibility to share my knowledge and love of music and music pedagogy with others. Having put myself in the role of student so many times, I think I can well empathize with my own students in regard to the amount of work and concentration needed to learn just about anything in music.

My mission as a teacher has always been twofold: to bring out and nurture the musician in all of us and to do so in the most efficient way possible for my students.

To me, lesson time is the time when trust is built. The trust is between the teacher’s ability to read the student (based on the student’s openness and goodwill) and the student’s confidence in that literacy.

Letter from Celin Romero

To whom it may concern,

I have worked and taught with Doug Goodhart for the past six years and in that time he has proven to be an excellent musician and a teacher of the highest caliber.

It is true that a teacher is judged by the progress of his students and Doug’s students display flawless technique and a high level of musicianship.

It is always a pleasure working with Doug. I believe he would be a welcome addition to any faculty or institution.

Sincerely,

Celin Romero

Message from John Tuohy

Mr. Douglas,

Judy told me about your music website. I really like it. It’s a
promotional site with no way to contact you – very traditional.
Anyway, I found some of your whistle MP3’s. Very nice. It’s kind of
the way I remember whistles used to sound. Neither bubbly or huffy
puffy. It didn’t know people played that way any more. Dave would
approve and so do I. Take care.
